Building & supporting excellence in oncology rehab.

PORi provides proven resources that unlock cancer rehab clinical expertise and operational congruency - driving cohesive teams, positive profits, and high community impact for oncology service lines.

The need & the opportunity for oncology rehabilitation

There are over 18 million cancer survivors in the U.S. alone. In 2022, 70% of cancer survivors had lived at least five years after diagnosis, and 11% had lived at least 25 years after diagnosis. Despite the high prevalence of cancer-related disabilities, only 1% to 2% of survivors receive rehabilitation, according to the American Cancer Society. PORi's continuing education courses and program development services help unlock clinical and program potential to provide much needed care for this untapped and underserved population.

The PORi Body Systems Approach: Practical Clinical skills and Patient Management Pathways for patients with a cancer diagnosis.

The physiological impact of cancer and oncology-related treatments is profound - it is crucially important that oncology rehabilitation providers address all of the patient's body systems that have been (or may be) affected by their cancer or its treatment. Our courses are designed to teach participants about the impact of cancer & cancer treatment on the dermal, myofascial, skeletal, lymphatic, neural, gastrointestinal, myofacial, urogenital,  aerodigestive, pulmonary, and cardiovascular systems. PORi's patient management algorithms and treatment protocols relate to the optimal resolution of functional impairment within these systems.

Rehabilitation as a standard of care for cancer patients

Oncology Rehabilitation should be prescribed to all patients who undergo treatment for cancer, as a standard component of their cancer treatment. Cancer Rehabilitation is a insurance-reimbursed medical intervention in conjunction with a cancer patient's Chemotherapy, Surgical, and Radiation plan of care.

The four Key Elements of Medical Care for Patients with an Oncology Diagnosis

Comprehensive oncology rehabilitation is an integral part of cancer care. In 2020, the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, which is the accrediting body for Cancer Program accreditation recognized the increased role that rehabilitation needs to play in cancer care by creating a new standard:

2020 Commission on Cancer
Standard 4.6: Rehabilitation Care Services

"Rehabilitation care is patient-centered care that optimizes patient functional status and quality of life through preventative, restorative, supportive, and palliative interventions.  The availability of rehabilitation care services is an essential component of comprehensive cancer care, beginning at the time of diagnosis and being continuously available throughout treatment, surveillance, and, when applicable, through end of life."
